The purpose of the loop is to protect the pressure gauge from the effects of pressure surges and the high temperature of the measured operating substance, which could adversely affect the proper functioning of the pressure gauge.
When properly installed, water fills the lower half of the loop and acts as a protective barrier between the high temperature steam and the pressure gauge.
The loop is mounted directly onto the pressure gauge's connection pin or onto the shut-off valve.
