The purpose of the siphon loop is to protect the pressure gauge from the effects of pressure surges and the high temperature of the measured process medium, which could adversely affect the correct operation of the pressure gauge.
When installed correctly, water fills the lower half of the loop and acts as a protective barrier between the high steam temperature and the pressure gauge.
The loop is mounted directly on the pressure gauge connection spigot or on the shut-off valve.
