Danfoss MSV-F2 DN 100 PN 25 is a manually adjustable balancing valve with flanged connection, designed for hydraulic balancing of closed heating and cooling systems. The valve enables precise presetting of the flow rate on each branch or riser of the system and is equipped as standard with an integrated stroke limiter and position indicator.

Where the valve is used

The MSV-F2 is intended for closed heating and cooling systems in buildings – from apartment blocks and commercial properties to industrial facilities. It is installed on each branch, riser or terminal unit of the system where the flow rate needs to be permanently set and limited. The valve is suitable for water and water-based mixtures with secondary refrigerants (glycols). The DN 100 flanged version is particularly suitable for main distribution pipework in larger buildings and industrial premises.

Flow presetting and stroke limitation

The integrated handwheel is directly connected to the stroke limiter – flow setting and its mechanical locking are carried out in a single step without the need for additional tools. The setting can be locked at any time to prevent unintentional adjustment. The valve also has a shut-off function, so there is no need to install a separate isolating valve during servicing or branch shutdown.

Flow measurement using test plugs

The valve is supplied as standard with needle test plugs, allowing connection of a Danfoss PFM 100 or PFM 1000 flow meter. The valve characteristics are preloaded directly in the measuring instrument, so flow reading and setting can be carried out quickly on site without calculations. The recommended straight pipe length upstream of the valve is 5 × DN and downstream 2 × DN to ensure measurement accuracy.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, the MSV-F2 can be installed on both the flow and return pipework of a heating or cooling system. During installation, it is essential to ensure that the arrow on the valve body matches the direction of medium flow.

The flow rate is set using the handwheel according to the nomogram in the datasheet or directly according to the characteristics stored in the Danfoss PFM 100 or PFM 1000 flow meter. The instrument is connected to the needle test plugs supplied as standard with the valve. Based on the differential pressure and flow rate, the instrument directly displays the measured value and suggests the handwheel position setting.

Yes, the valve is designed for water and water-based mixtures with secondary refrigerants (ethylene glycol, propylene glycol) in closed systems. When using glycol mixtures, the measured flow rate must be adjusted using a correction factor – a table of correction factors for ethylene glycol (0–100%) is included in the technical data sheet. The manufacturer recommends verifying the compatibility of the specific mixture with the valve materials with the refrigerant supplier.

Both versions have the same kVS (200 m³/h for DN 100), but they differ in the maximum permissible medium temperature and flange dimensions. The PN 16 version is rated for max. 130 °C and the flanges have a pitch circle diameter of 180 mm (8 × M19). The PN 25 version can handle up to 150 °C and has more robust flanges – a 190 mm pitch circle diameter with 8 M23 holes. For most standard heating systems, PN 16 is sufficient; PN 25 is selected for higher operating pressures or temperatures.
