Danfoss MSV-F2 DN 65 PN 16 is a manual presetting (balancing) valve with flanged connection designed for hydraulic balancing of closed heating and cooling systems. The valve allows the flow rate to be limited to a pre-calculated value and this setting to be mechanically locked. The standard equipment includes a position indicator, stroke limiter and needle measuring nipples for connection of a measuring instrument.

Where the valve is used

The MSV-F2 is installed in heating and cooling distribution systems wherever the flow rate needs to be permanently set on each circuit, branch or riser – in residential and office buildings, industrial facilities and larger process systems. The valve is suitable for water and water mixtures with antifreeze additives (glycols) in closed systems. The PN 16 flanged version complies with EN 1092-2 and is the standard for pipeline systems of DN 65 and above.

Flow setting and locking

The valve handle is integrated with a stroke limiter – the flow rate is set by turning the handle to the calculated position (for DN 65, range 1–9.5) and then locked with an Allen key. The setting cannot be overlooked or changed unintentionally. The flow rate is measured and verified using a PFM 100 or PFM 1000 measuring instrument connected to the needle measuring nipples. Correction for glycol mixtures is enabled by the correction factor stated in the technical data sheet.

Frequently asked questions

At full opening (setting 9.5), the kVS value is 93.4 m³/h. The maximum permissible differential pressure during throttling is 1.5 bar and the maximum flow velocity is 4 m/s.

Yes. The MSV-F2 is designed for water and water mixtures with antifreeze additives (glycols) in closed heating and cooling systems. The temperature range for the PN 16 version is –10 °C to 130 °C. When calculating the flow rate with glycols, it is necessary to use the correction factor according to the proportion of glycol content.

The valve is fitted as standard with needle measuring nipples. A Danfoss PFM 100 or PFM 1000 measuring instrument is connected to them, which calculates the actual flow rate based on the measured differential pressure and the entered valve setting.

The valve is installed in the direction of the arrow on the body. A straight pipe length of 5× the diameter (5D) is recommended upstream of the valve, and 2× the diameter (2D) downstream of the valve. Failure to observe these distances may affect flow measurement accuracy by up to 20%. DN 200–400 valves must not be installed with the handle pointing downwards.
