Grundfos CU 302 is an electronic control unit designed exclusively for Grundfos SQE series pumps. It provides smooth pump speed control according to the current water demand, maintaining constant system pressure regardless of the number of draw-off points open at the same time. The unit also protects the pump against dry running, overload and other operating faults.
The CU 302 is installed in domestic water supply systems and water supply systems fed from a private source – most commonly in combination with an SQE submersible pump in private wells, tanks or boreholes. The unit is suitable for family houses, cottages and smaller commercial premises where reliable, quiet operation with constant pressure is required. Pressure settings, protective functions and diagnostics can all be handled directly on the unit display without the need for a service technician.

The unit continuously measures system pressure and controls the speed of the SQE pump so that the set pressure is maintained constantly – even when demand changes. Integrated protection functions monitor dry running (drop in the water level in the well), motor overload, overheating and excessively frequent switching. If a fault occurs, the display shows an error code and safely shuts down the pump.
The CU 302 is equipped with a clear graphic display and rotary control. The operator can set the required pressure, cut-in pressure, dry-running protection and other parameters directly from the front panel – without the need for a laptop or special software. The display shows the current pressure, flow rate, motor temperature and fault history.
Factory settings (default values):
The CU 302 is intended exclusively for Grundfos SQE pumps – it is a closed system in which the unit and the pump communicate via a proprietary bus. It is not compatible with other pumps (including the SQ series without the letter E). When replacing an older CU 300 or CU 301 unit, compatibility is usually retained – we recommend checking the specific pump type designation in the Grundfos technical documentation.
The unit is connected between the 230 V mains supply and the pump cable. Connection to the 230 V mains must be carried out by a person with the appropriate electrical qualifications. The actual connection of the pump cable and parameter setting on the display can also be handled by a skilled plumber without special training – the procedure is described in the enclosed installation instructions.
In the event of a fault, an alarm code is shown on the display (e.g. “Dry running” for dry running, “Motor overload” for overload). The unit shuts down the pump and, after the protective delay has elapsed, attempts an automatic restart. The history of recent faults can be viewed directly in the unit menu. An explanation of all codes and the procedure for clearing them are given in the Grundfos installation and operating instructions.
The SQE + CU 302 system operates with variable-speed control, so the pump starts smoothly and does not require a pressure vessel for correct operation. Nevertheless, a small pressure vessel (typically 2–8 l) is recommended as a buffer – it reduces the number of starts during minor draw-off events (dripping tap, toilet cistern) and extends the service life of the pump.
