Pressure gauges are divided into several types according to their measuring principle. The most commonly used are pressure gauges with an elastic measuring element, i.e. with a component that deforms under the measured pressure and transfers this movement to the dial.

The most common type you will encounter is the Bourdon tube pressure gauge, which is popular for its durability, accuracy, and wide range of applications. For aggressive and contaminated media, diaphragm pressure gauges are used, as they can withstand demanding conditions. How to Install a Pressure Gauge Correctly

Start by choosing a suitable location – one where environmental influences (vibration, temperature changes) are minimised and which is easily visible for readings. The most common mistake when fitting a pressure gauge is precisely unsuitable placement. If vibration levels at the application site are high, you can use glycerine filling for damping.

Before installation, switch off and drain the system. For this purpose, there should be shut-off valves – gauge cocks upstream of the installation point, allowing you to stop the flow of gas or liquid. After installation, carefully seal all joints. Once the circuit is put into operation, vent the system, carefully check the tightness of all joints, and verify that the measurement is functioning correctly.

Principles and Frequency of Pressure Gauge Calibration

The accuracy of pressure gauge measurement is affected by vibration, temperature, and operating load. These and other factors cause measurement deviations over time, which can be dangerous. Pressure gauges must therefore be calibrated regularly and professionally; in some applications, this requirement is laid down by law.

Calibration is a process in which measurement accuracy is tested under laboratory conditions and any undesirable deviations are then corrected. Calibration is carried out by certified technicians. The minimum recommended interval is once a year, but this is shorter for more demanding applications or for pressure gauges with a higher accuracy class. Pressure gauges can be calibrated in a laboratory or directly at the application site.

  • you have changed the equipment and the pressure parameters have changed,
  • the equipment shows frequent faults or unstable operation,
  • the pressure gauge is visibly worn or mechanically damaged,
  • the pressure gauge displays implausible values,
  • it has been exposed to excessive values or operating conditions,
  • the pointer sticks or “jumps”.
