Honeywell V5013R is a three-way mixing control globe valve with female threaded connections for heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. It is used to control the flow of hot or chilled water with precise positioning over the full stroke range, in combination with Honeywell linear electric or pneumatic actuators.

Typical applications

The V5013R valve is used in heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems – typically in district heating substations, air handling units, fan coils and cooling circuits. It controls the flow of both hot and chilled water in open and closed circuits. Suitable for installations in commercial and industrial buildings where precise temperature control is required. The ISO 228 female threaded connection simplifies installation into existing pipework.

Precise flow control

The valve operates as a three-way mixing assembly – port A-AB has an equal percentage flow characteristic, while port B-AB is linear. A 20 mm stroke and 50:1 rangeability ensure precise flow control across the entire operating range. The total flow through the valve remains constant as the plug moves, which is advantageous for hydraulic balancing of circuits. The packing made of self-adjusting PTFE V-rings reinforced with carbon fibres minimises leakage and extends service life without the need for retightening.

Frequently asked questions

The valve is designed for direct connection to Honeywell linear electric actuators from the ML6420/ML6425 and ML7420/ML7425 series (600 N force) or ML6421/ML7421 (1,800 N force). Compatible pneumatic actuators include the MP953 types. The maximum close-off pressure depends on the combination of DN size and actuator used – detailed values are given in the valve and actuator datasheets.

The valve must not be installed with the stem pointing below the horizontal plane – the actuator must be in the upper position or at most horizontal, never below the valve body. The flow direction must correspond to the arrow marked on the valve body. The manufacturer recommends installing a strainer upstream of the valve to prevent dirt from fouling the seat. The medium must comply with the requirements of VDI 2035 (heating water quality).

Yes, the valve is designed for alternating use with both hot and chilled water. The condition is compliance with the maximum temperature differential of 60 K when switching between media. This limitation protects the seals and valve body against thermal stress. For 4-pipe fan coil systems with heating/cooling changeover, it is therefore advisable to check that the operating conditions do not exceed this limit.

Packing repair kits are available for V5013R valves. For older red brass (RG5) models, these are kits R43176754001 (DN15–32) and R43176754002 (DN40–50). For newer yellow brass models (marked DR), the single kit R43176754002 applies to the entire DN15–50 range. The packing is self-adjusting, so under normal operation it does not require regular retightening.
