GSH-C2H4 is a pre-calibrated sensor module for the E2639-GSH detector and is used to measure ethylene in the range of 0–1500 ppm. It connects via an M12 connector and can be hot-swapped without opening the detector housing. An integrated calibration calendar monitors the date of the next calibration, while the calibration itself can be carried out separately from the installed E2639 main unit using the SSC configurator.
The GSH-C2H4 sensor is designed for monitoring ethylene in environments such as fruit and vegetable storage facilities, ripening chambers, greenhouses, food processing plants, and other operations where ethylene is used as a ripening regulator or where it may be unintentionally generated as a by-product of biological processes. The device helps prevent health risks associated with exposure to this gas and contributes to the safety of both personnel and operations.
Ethylene is a colourless gas with a faintly sweet odour which, at very low concentrations, is virtually undetectable without the use of a detector. Although it is not directly fatal during short-term exposure, at higher levels it displaces oxygen in the air and may cause dizziness, disorientation, or loss of consciousness. However, the principal hazard is its high flammability — even relatively low concentrations of ethylene in air can lead to explosion or fire in enclosed spaces, making it a gas that requires continuous monitoring.
The smart sensor offers a major advantage during calibration – the entire process can be carried out separately from the installed detector. While the E2639-GSH main unit remains in operation at the installation site, the GSH sensor module can be removed and calibrated independently – at the distributor’s premises, the integrator’s facilities, or directly at the Evikon MCI manufacturer. This is done using the dedicated SSC configurator, through which the module is connected to a computer. Once calibrated, the GSH module simply needs to be plugged back in via the M12 connector – without opening the device housing, without complicated procedures, and without any downtime for the entire installation.
Each sensor package includes the manufacturer’s original calibration certificate in English, confirming the accuracy and correctness of the measurements at the time of manufacture.
