E2639-EtO is a detector designed for monitoring high concentrations of ethylene oxide in the air. The device is equipped with a temperature-compensated sensor that ensures reliable detection and stable measurement, and it is housed in a wall-mounted enclosure with IP65 protection. The E2639 features three SPDT relays with a maximum load of 250 VAC 5 A. Two relays are used for so-called two-stage detection. The third relay indicates a sensor fault. Communication with higher-level systems is provided via the RS485 Modbus RTU digital interface, supplemented by two 4–20 mA analogue outputs. The version with a Wi-Fi module enables wireless connection of a smartphone or tablet for configuration and calibration via a web interface – with no need to install an app. In addition, the device includes four LEDs and an audible alarm, which immediately alert operators to an exceeded set limit directly at the installation site – without the need to monitor a remote control system.

Typical applications

The E2639-EtO detector is intended for monitoring ethylene oxide in environments such as sterilisation facilities, hospitals, pharmaceutical plants, chemical stores, and other enclosed spaces where C₂H₄O may accumulate. The device helps prevent health risks associated with exposure to this gas and contributes to ensuring the safety of both personnel and operations.

Ethylene oxide - Wikipedia

Ethylene oxide (C₂H₄O)

Ethylene oxide is a colourless gas with a sweet, ethereal odour, which is highly flammable and explosive at room temperature. It is produced primarily by the industrial synthesis of ethylene with oxygen and is used as an intermediate in the manufacture of ethylene glycol, plastics and detergents, as well as a sterilising agent in healthcare. Even short-term exposure to ethylene oxide can cause irritation of the eyes and respiratory tract, headaches or nausea, while long-term exposure is associated with an increased risk of cancer and damage to the nervous system.

Smart communication – ideal for fire alarm systems

The E2639 detector combines the advantages of an autonomous safety device and an intelligent communication node. It is designed for seamless integration with fire alarm systems (EPS) and offers a wide range of outputs for comprehensive control:

  • Autonomy: 3× volt-free SPDT relays for direct control of equipment or safe system shutdown.
  • Connectivity: Dual RS485 Modbus RTU interface for digital export of measured data in real time to a higher-level system (BMS).
  • Control: 2× 4–20 mA analogue outputs intended for precise control of the ventilation frequency inverter.

WiFi calibration from any smart device

Compared to the standard version, the E2639-WF has an integrated WiFi module that turns calibration and configuration into a matter of minutes – without tools and without removing the cover. The access point is activated using a magnetic key, and the configuration interface opens in the browser of a phone or tablet, with no need to download any app. The interface is password-protected with separate access levels for end users and integrators, so everyone works only within their own section of the settings.

Factory settings:

  • Measuring range: 0...20 ppm
  • ALARM1 (RE1): 5 ppm
  • ALARM2 (RE2): 10 ppm
  • ALARM3 (RE3): sensor fault
    • Automatic alarm reset after ventilation
  • Analogue outputs: 4-20mA = 0...20 ppm
  • ModBus RTU address: Baud rate 9600, Parity None, Stop bits 1, Slave ID 1

Key features
