E2639-H2S is a detector designed for monitoring high concentrations of carbon monoxide in the air. The device is equipped with a temperature-compensated sensor that ensures reliable detection and stable measurement, and it is housed in a wall-mounted enclosure with IP65 protection. The E2639 features three SPDT relays with a maximum load of 250 VAC 5 A. Two relays are used for so-called two-stage detection. The third relay indicates a sensor fault. Communication with higher-level systems is provided by the RS485 Modbus RTU digital interface, complemented by two 4–20 mA analogue outputs. In addition, the device includes four LEDs and an audible alarm, which immediately alert operators to an exceeded set limit directly at the installation site – without the need to monitor a remote control system.

Typical applications

The E2639-H2S detector is intended for monitoring hydrogen sulphide in environments such as wastewater treatment plants, sewer systems, paper mills, chemical plants, oil and natural gas processing facilities, and other industrial operations where this toxic gas may accumulate. The device helps prevent health risks associated with exposure to hydrogen sulphide and contributes to the safety of both personnel and operations.

Hydrogen sulphide (H2S)

Hydrogen sulphide is a colourless gas that can be recognised even at very low concentrations by its characteristic rotten egg smell. At higher concentrations, however, it causes paralysis of the sense of smell, so its presence cannot be reliably detected without a detector. It is formed mainly during the biological decomposition of organic substances containing sulphur, typically in sewers, wastewater treatment plants, agricultural operations, or during the extraction and processing of oil and natural gas. Exposure to hydrogen sulphide can cause irritation of the mucous membranes, nausea, or headaches even at low levels, while high concentrations pose an immediate threat to life.

Smart communication – ideal for fire alarm systems

The E2639 detector combines the advantages of an autonomous safety device and an intelligent communication node. It is designed for seamless integration with fire alarm systems (EPS) and offers a wide range of outputs for comprehensive control:

  • Autonomy: 3× volt-free SPDT relays for direct control of equipment or safe system shutdown.
  • Connectivity: Dual RS485 Modbus RTU interface for real-time digital export of measured data to a higher-level system (BMS).
  • Control: 2× 4–20 mA analogue outputs intended for precise control of the ventilation frequency inverter.

Easy installation

Easy installation

The E2639 is equipped with three M20 cable glands and a dual terminal block for Modbus RTU. The duplicated Modbus RTU terminals simplify and speed up bus wiring for reading into a higher-level system. No more inserting two conductors into one terminal. Thanks to the M20 cable glands, all required outputs can be connected conveniently.

Factory settings:

  • Measurement range: 0...2,000 ppm
  • ALARM1 (RE1): 500 ppm
  • ALARM2 (RE2): 1,000 ppm
  • ALARM3 (RE3): sensor fault
    • Automatic alarm reset after ventilation
  • Analogue outputs: 4-20mA = 0...2,000 ppm
  • Modbus RTU address: Baud rate 9600, Parity None, Stop bits 1, Slave ID 1

Key features

  • Sensor type: Electrochemical sensor
  • Measurement range: 0...2,000 ppm
  • Resolution: 1 ppm
