Evikon E2639-CH4 is a detector designed for monitoring high concentrations of methane in the air. The device is equipped with a temperature-compensated sensor that ensures reliable detection and stable measurement, and it is housed in a wall-mounted enclosure with IP65 protection. The E2639 features three SPDT relays with a maximum load of 250 VAC 5 A. Two relays are used for so-called two-stage detection. The third relay indicates a sensor fault. Communication with higher-level systems is provided by the RS485 Modbus RTU digital interface, complemented by two 4–20 mA analogue outputs. The version with a Wi-Fi module allows wireless connection of a smartphone or tablet for configuration and calibration via a web interface, with no need to install an app. In addition, the device includes four LEDs and an audible alarm, which immediately alert operators when the set limit is exceeded directly at the installation site, without the need to monitor a remote control system.

Typical applications

The E2639-CH4 detector is intended for monitoring methane in environments such as boiler rooms, gas stations, industrial halls, food processing facilities and other enclosed spaces. The device helps prevent risks associated with natural gas leaks and contributes to operational safety. The sensor responds to a wide range of flammable gases, but most accurately to methane, which was used as the calibration gas.

Methane (CH₄)

Methane is a colourless, odourless and highly flammable gas that is naturally released during the extraction and distribution of natural gas, in agriculture, the food industry and a range of industrial processes. Its danger lies in the fact that human senses cannot detect it – which is why continuous electronic detection is a key safety element wherever leaks may occur.

Smart communication – ideal for fire alarm systems

The E2639 detector combines the advantages of an autonomous safety element and an intelligent communication node. It is designed for seamless integration with fire alarm systems (EPS) and offers a wide range of outputs for comprehensive control:

  • Autonomy: 3× volt-free SPDT relays for direct control of equipment or safe system shutdown.
  • Connectivity: Dual RS485 Modbus RTU interface for digital export of measured data in real time to a higher-level system (BMS).
  • Control: 2× 4–20 mA analogue outputs intended for precise control of the ventilation frequency inverter.

WiFi calibration from any smart device

Compared to the standard version, the E2639-WF has an integrated WiFi module that turns calibration and configuration into a matter of minutes – without tools and without removing the cover. The access point is activated using a magnetic key, and the configuration interface opens in the browser of a phone or tablet, with no need to download any app. The interface is password-protected with separate access levels for end users and integrators, so everyone works only within their own part of the settings.

Factory settings:

  • Measuring range: 0–100%LEL CH₄
  • ALARM1 (RE1): 10%LEL
  • ALARM2 (RE2): 20%LEL
  • ALARM3 (RE3): sensor fault
    • Automatic alarm reset after ventilation
  • Analogue outputs: 4-20mA = 0-100%LEL CH₄
  • ModBus RTU address: Baud rate 9600, Parity None, Stop bits 1, Slave ID 1

Key features

  • Sensor type: Semiconductor sensor
  • Measuring range: 0–100%LEL
  • Resolution: 0.1%LEL
  • T90 response time: approx. 60 s
  • Recommended recalibration interval: 12 months
  • Estimated sensor lifetime: > 5 years
  • 1-year warranty on the sensor itself (2 years on the entire device excluding the sensor)

Calibration certificate

Each detector package includes the manufacturer’s original calibration certificate in English, confirming the accuracy and correctness of measurement at the time of manufacture.
