E2639-NO2 is a detector designed for monitoring high concentrations of nitrogen dioxide in the air. The device is equipped with a temperature-compensated sensor that ensures reliable detection and stable measurement, and it is housed in a wall-mounted enclosure with IP65 protection. The E2639 features three SPDT relays with a maximum load of 250 VAC 5 A. Two relays are used for so-called two-stage detection. The third relay indicates a sensor fault. Communication with higher-level systems is provided via an RS485 Modbus RTU digital interface, complemented by two 4–20 mA analogue outputs. In addition, the device includes four LEDs and an audible alarm, which immediately alert operators to an exceeded set limit directly at the installation site – without the need to monitor a remote control system.

Typical applications

The E2639-NO2 detector is intended for monitoring nitrogen dioxide in environments such as industrial facilities, chemical and analytical laboratories, exhaust and combustion stations, welding workplaces, printing works, and other enclosed spaces where NO2 may accumulate. The device helps prevent health risks associated with exposure to this highly toxic gas and contributes to ensuring the safety of both personnel and operations.

Nitrogen dioxide (NO₂)

Nitrogen dioxide is a reddish-brown toxic gas with a characteristic pungent odour. Its presence in the air can be recognised by smell at higher concentrations, but reliable detection without a measuring instrument is not possible. In enclosed spaces, it can accumulate to dangerous concentrations, and due to its high reactivity it aggressively attacks the respiratory tract even at relatively low levels. Exposure to higher concentrations of nitrogen dioxide may cause irritation of the mucous membranes, coughing, shortness of breath, or headaches, and prolonged exposure may result in serious lung damage, chemical pneumonitis, and adverse effects on the cardiovascular system.

Smart communication – ideal for fire alarm systems

The E2639 detector combines the advantages of an autonomous safety device and an intelligent communication node. It is designed for seamless integration with fire alarm systems (EPS) and offers a wide range of outputs for comprehensive control:

  • Autonomy: 3× volt-free SPDT relays for direct control of equipment or safe system shutdown.
  • Connectivity: Dual RS485 Modbus RTU interface for real-time digital export of measured data to a higher-level system (BMS).
  • Control: 2× 4–20 mA analogue outputs intended for precise control of the ventilation frequency inverter.

Easy installation

The E2639 is equipped with three M20 cable glands and a dual terminal block for Modbus RTU. The duplicated Modbus RTU terminals simplify and speed up bus wiring for reading into a higher-level system. No more inserting two conductors into a single terminal. Thanks to the M20 cable glands, all required outputs can be connected conveniently.

Factory settings:

  • Measurement range: 0...200 ppm
  • ALARM1 (RE1): 50 ppm
  • ALARM2 (RE2): 100 ppm
  • ALARM3 (RE3): sensor fault
    • Automatic alarm reset after ventilation
  • Analogue outputs: 4-20mA = 0...200 ppm
  • Modbus RTU address: Baud rate 9600, Parity None, Stop bits 1, Slave ID 1
