Evikon E2639-C3H8 is a detector designed for monitoring high concentrations of propane in the air. The device is equipped with a temperature-compensated sensor that ensures reliable detection and stable measurement, and it is housed in a wall-mounted enclosure with IP65 protection. The E2639 features three SPDT relays with a maximum load of 250 VAC 5 A. Two relays are used for so-called two-stage detection. The third relay indicates a sensor fault. Communication with higher-level systems is provided by the RS485 Modbus RTU digital interface, complemented by two 4–20 mA analogue outputs. The version with a Wi-Fi module enables wireless connection of a smartphone or tablet for configuration and calibration via a web interface – with no need to install an app. In addition, the device includes four LEDs and an audible alarm, which immediately alert operators to an exceeded set limit directly at the installation site – without the need to monitor a remote control system.

Typical applications

The E2639-LEL(C3H8) detector is designed for monitoring propane in industrial and commercial environments such as boiler rooms, plant rooms, gas storage facilities, LPG filling stations, and other areas where flammable gases are handled. The device is used for the early detection of hazardous propane/LPG concentrations, helping to ensure equipment safety and minimise the risk of fire or explosion.

Propane (C3H8)

Propane is a colourless, odourless gas commonly used as a fuel for heating, cooking, or powering vehicles. Together with butane, it forms LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas), which is a liquefied petroleum gas stored under pressure. Thanks to its properties, such as a low boiling point, propane is also suitable for colder conditions where butane would not be as effective. LPG is often used as a more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional fossil fuels because it produces lower pollutant emissions. In addition, it is easy to transport and store, making it a versatile and practical fuel.

Smart communication – ideal for fire alarm systems

The E2639 detector combines the advantages of an autonomous safety device and an intelligent communication node. It is designed for seamless integration with fire alarm systems (EPS) and offers a wide range of outputs for comprehensive control:

  • Autonomy: 3× volt-free SPDT relays for direct control of equipment or safe system shutdown.
  • Connectivity: Dual RS485 Modbus RTU interface for digital export of measured data in real time to a higher-level system (BMS).
  • Control: 2× 4–20 mA analogue outputs intended for precise control of the ventilation frequency inverter.

WiFi calibration from any smart device

Compared to the standard version, the E2639-WF features an integrated WiFi module that turns calibration and configuration into a matter of minutes – with no tools and no need to remove the cover. The access point is activated using a magnetic key, and the configuration interface opens in the browser of a phone or tablet, with no need to download any app. The interface is password-protected with separate access levels for end users and integrators, so everyone works only within their own part of the settings.
