Evikon E2639-HFC(R134a) is a detector designed to monitor high concentrations of R134a refrigerant in the air. The device is equipped with a temperature-compensated sensor that ensures reliable detection and stable measurement, and it is housed in a wall-mounted enclosure with IP65 protection. The E2639 features three SPDT relays with a maximum load of 250 VAC 5 A. Two relays are used for so-called two-stage detection. The third relay indicates a sensor fault. Communication with higher-level systems is provided via the RS485 Modbus RTU digital interface, complemented by two 4–20 mA analogue outputs. In addition, the device includes four LEDs and an audible alarm, which immediately alert operators to any exceeded threshold directly at the installation site – without the need to monitor a remote control system.

Typical applications

The E2639-HFC detector is intended for monitoring R134a refrigerant leaks in environments such as plant rooms, air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment, refrigerant storage areas, or other installations where refrigerant concentrations need to be controlled. The device is used for early leak detection, helping to minimise the risks associated with refrigerant leakage and protect both the environment and the equipment.

Molecule model

1,1,1,2-Tetrafluoroethane (R134a)

R134a is a synthetic refrigerant widely used in refrigeration and air-conditioning systems. It is a colourless gas with a slight odour and low toxicity. Although it is non-flammable, any leakage may impair air quality or contribute to greenhouse gas emissions. Monitoring R134a leaks is essential for maintaining equipment safety and complying with environmental standards.

Smart communication – ideal for fire alarm systems

The E2639 detector combines the advantages of an autonomous safety device and an intelligent communication node. It is designed for seamless integration with fire alarm systems (EPS) and offers a wide range of outputs for comprehensive control:

  • Autonomy: 3× volt-free SPDT relays for direct control of equipment or safe system shutdown.
  • Connectivity: Dual RS485 Modbus RTU interface for real-time digital export of measured data to a higher-level system (BMS).
  • Control: 2× 4–20 mA analogue outputs intended for precise control of the ventilation frequency inverter.

Easy installation

Easy installation

The E2639 is equipped with three M20 cable glands and a dual terminal block for Modbus RTU. The duplicated Modbus RTU terminals simplify and speed up bus wiring for connection to a higher-level system. No more inserting two conductors into a single terminal. Thanks to the M20 cable glands, all required outputs can be connected conveniently.

Factory settings:

  • Measuring range: 0...2500 ppm
  • ALARM1 (RE1): 1000 ppm
  • ALARM2 (RE2): 2000 ppm
  • ALARM3 (RE3): sensor fault
    • Automatic alarm reset after ventilation
  • Analogue outputs: 4-20 mA = 0...2500 ppm
  • Modbus RTU address: Baud rate 9600, Parity None, Stop bits 1, Slave ID 1

Key features

  • Sensor type: Semiconductor sensor
  • Measuring range: 0...2500 ppm
  • Resolution: 1 ppm
  • T90 response time: approx. 120 s
  • Recommended recalibration interval: 6–12 months
  • Estimated sensor lifetime: > 5 years
  • 1-year warranty on the sensor itself (2 years on the complete device excluding the sensor)

Calibration certificate

Each detector package includes the original manufacturer’s calibration certificate in English, confirming the accuracy and correctness of measurement at the time of leaving the factory.
