Evikon E2639-VOC(C8H10)-LEL is a detector designed for monitoring high concentrations of xylene in the air. The device is equipped with a temperature-compensated sensor that ensures reliable detection and stable measurement, and it is housed in a wall-mounted enclosure with IP65 protection. The E2639 features three SPDT relays with a maximum load of 250VAC 5A. Two relays are used for so-called two-stage detection. The third relay indicates a sensor fault. Communication with higher-level systems is provided via the RS485 Modbus RTU digital interface, complemented by two 4–20 mA analogue outputs. In addition, the device includes four LEDs and an audible alarm, which immediately alert operators to an exceeded set limit directly at the installation site – without the need to monitor a remote control system.

Typical applications

The E2639-VOC(C8H10)-LEL detector is intended for monitoring xylene concentrations in environments such as paint shops, printing works, industrial facilities, chemical stores, laboratories, or other workplaces where solvents, coatings and industrial cleaning agents containing xylene are used.

m-xylene – Wikipedia

Xylene (C8H10)

Xylene is a volatile organic compound that readily evaporates into the air and can accumulate in enclosed spaces to dangerous concentrations. Although it has a characteristic sweet odour, it cannot be relied upon as a warning sign, because the sense of smell quickly adapts after repeated exposure and stops detecting it. Exposure may lead to headaches, nausea, dizziness, or irritation of the eyes and respiratory tract, and at higher concentrations or with prolonged exposure there is a risk of serious damage to the nervous system, liver and kidneys.

Smart communication – ideal for fire alarm systems

The E2639 detector combines the advantages of an autonomous safety device and an intelligent communication node. It is designed for seamless integration with fire alarm systems (EPS) and offers a wide range of outputs for comprehensive control:

  • Autonomy: 3× volt-free SPDT relays for direct control of equipment or safe system shutdown.
  • Connectivity: Dual RS485 Modbus RTU interface for real-time digital export of measured data to a higher-level system (BMS).
  • Control: 2× 4–20 mA analogue outputs intended for precise control of the ventilation frequency inverter.

Easy installation

Easy installation

The E2639 is equipped with three M20 cable glands and a dual terminal block for Modbus RTU. The duplicated Modbus RTU terminals help simplify and speed up bus wiring for reading into a higher-level system. No more inserting two conductors into one terminal. Thanks to the M20 cable glands, all required outputs can be connected conveniently.

Factory settings:

  • Measuring range: 0–100%LEL
  • ALARM1 (RE1): 10%LEL
  • ALARM2 (RE2): 20%LEL
  • ALARM3 (RE3): sensor fault
    • Automatic alarm reset after ventilation
  • Analogue outputs: 4-20mA = 0-100%LEL
  • Modbus RTU address: Baud rate 9600, Parity None, Stop bits 1, Slave ID 1

Key features

  • Sensor type: Semiconductor sensor
  • Measuring range: 0–100%LEL
  • Resolution: 0.1%LEL
  • T90 response time: < 120 s
  • Recommended recalibration interval: 6–12 months
  • Estimated sensor lifetime: > 5 years
  • 1-year warranty on the sensor itself (2 years on the entire device excluding the sensor)

Calibration certificate

Each detector package includes the original manufacturer's calibration certificate in English, confirming the accuracy and correctness of measurement at the time it leaves the factory.
