Johnson Controls TE-6311P-1 is a passive resistive duct temperature sensor designed for use in HVAC systems. The sensor operates on the resistance measurement principle – 1k ohm thin-film nickel type – and, as a two-wire device, transmits the signal directly to a controller or DDC system. It is supplied with a plastic enclosure (TE-63xxP) and an 8 in. (203 mm) probe.

Typical applications

The TE-6311P-1 sensor is designed for measuring air temperature inside ventilation ducts in buildings such as offices, schools, hospitals, industrial facilities, and shopping centres. It serves as an input signal for temperature controllers, fan coil units, VAV systems, or central BMS. The 203 mm probe covers standard duct cross-sections; for larger cross-sections or environments with temperature stratification, it is advisable to combine multiple sensors in a series-parallel configuration. The plastic enclosure with 1/2–14 NPT internal thread allows connection to electrical conduit.

Frequently asked questions

The TE-6311P-1 is a passive two-wire device with a resistive output – it does not require a power supply. You simply connect the two wires directly to the resistive input of the controller or DDC module. The controller itself measures the probe resistance and converts it into temperature according to the 1k ohm nickel characteristic.

The TE-6311P-1 model with plastic cover does not in itself meet plenum rating requirements. To comply with UL 1995, the plastic cover must be replaced with the TE-6001-13 kit (metal cover with gasket). TE-63xxM or TE-63xxE models meet plenum requirements without modification.

Yes, the TE-6311P-1 model (203 mm probe) can be fitted into a thermowell. The appropriate probe holder must be ordered separately: for the TE-6300W-110 thermowell (stainless steel, immersion depth 114 mm, 1/2–14 NPT thread), use the TE-6300-605 adaptor, which is included in the accessories for P-models.

The plastic enclosure (TE-63xxP) has a thermoplastic conduit box with a 1/2–14 NPT thread and an aluminium mounting plate – suitable for standard installations without a plenum requirement. The metal enclosure (TE-63xxM) is made of corrosion-resistant steel, complies with UL 1995 plenum requirements without modification, and also offers direct mounting into a 1/2–14 NPT thermowell without an adaptor. For applications requiring compliance with the IMC code, the TE-6300-613 kit is additionally required for the M-model.
