Evikon E2639-CH4 is a detector designed for monitoring high concentrations of methane in air. The device is equipped with a temperature-compensated sensor that ensures reliable detection and stable measurement, and it is housed in a wall-mounted enclosure with IP65 protection. The E2639 features three SPDT relays with a maximum load of 250 VAC 5 A. Two relays are used for so-called two-stage detection. The third relay indicates a sensor fault. Communication with higher-level systems is provided by the RS485 Modbus RTU digital interface, complemented by two 4–20 mA analogue outputs. In addition, the device includes four LEDs and an audible alarm, which immediately alert operators to an exceeded set limit directly at the installation site – without the need to monitor a remote control system.

Typical applications

The E2639-CH4 detector is intended for monitoring methane in environments such as boiler rooms, gas stations, industrial halls, food processing facilities and other enclosed spaces. The device helps prevent risks associated with natural gas leaks and contributes to operational safety. The sensor responds to a wide range of flammable gases, but it is most accurate for methane, which was used as the calibration gas.

Methane (CH4)

Methane is a colourless, odourless and highly flammable gas that is naturally released during the extraction and distribution of natural gas, in agriculture, the food industry and many industrial processes. Its danger lies in the fact that it cannot be detected by human senses – which is why continuous electronic detection is a key safety element wherever leaks may occur.

Smart communication – ideal for fire alarm systems

The E2639 detector combines the benefits of an autonomous safety device and an intelligent communication node. It is designed for seamless integration with fire alarm systems (EPS) and offers a wide range of outputs for comprehensive control:

  • Autonomy: 3× volt-free SPDT relays for direct control of equipment or safe system shutdown.
  • Connectivity: Dual RS485 Modbus RTU interface for real-time digital export of measured data to a higher-level system (BMS).
  • Control: 2× 4–20 mA analogue outputs intended for precise control of the ventilation frequency inverter.

Easy installation

Easy installation

The E2639 is equipped with three M20 cable glands and a dual terminal block for Modbus RTU. The duplicated Modbus RTU terminals simplify and speed up bus wiring for reading data into a higher-level system. No more inserting two conductors into a single terminal. Thanks to the M20 cable glands, all required outputs can be connected conveniently.

Factory settings:

  • Measuring range: 0–100%LEL CH4
  • ALARM1 (RE1): 10%LEL
  • ALARM2 (RE2): 20%LEL
  • ALARM3 (RE3): sensor fault
    • Automatic alarm reset after ventilation
  • Analogue outputs: 4-20mA = 0-100%LEL CH4
  • Modbus RTU address: Baud rate 9600, Parity None, Stop bits 1, Slave ID 1

Key features

  • Sensor type: Semiconductor sensor
  • Measuring range: 0–100%LEL
  • Resolution: 0.1%LEL
  • T90 response time: approx. 60 s
  • Recommended recalibration interval: 12 months
  • Estimated sensor lifetime: > 5 years
  • 1-year warranty on the sensor itself (2 years on the entire device excluding the sensor)

Calibration certificate

Each detector package includes the manufacturer’s original calibration certificate in English, confirming the accuracy and correctness of measurement at the time of leaving the factory.
