Evikon E2639-C3H8 is a detector designed for monitoring high concentrations of propane in the air. The device is equipped with a temperature-compensated sensor that ensures reliable detection and stable measurement, and it is housed in a wall-mounted enclosure with IP65 protection. The E2639 features three SPDT relays with a maximum load of 250 VAC 5 A. Two relays are used for so-called two-stage detection. The third relay indicates a sensor fault. Communication with higher-level systems is provided via the RS485 Modbus RTU digital interface, complemented by two 4–20 mA analogue outputs. In addition, the device includes four LEDs and an audible alarm, which immediately alert operators to any exceeded limit directly at the installation site – without the need to monitor a remote control system.

Typical applications

The E2639-LEL(C3H8) detector is designed for monitoring propane in industrial and commercial environments such as boiler rooms, plant rooms, gas storage facilities, LPG filling stations, and other areas where flammable gases are handled. The device is used for the early detection of hazardous propane/LPG concentrations, helping to ensure equipment safety and minimise the risk of fire or explosion.

Propane (C3H8)

Propane is a colourless, odourless gas commonly used as a fuel for heating, cooking, and powering vehicles. Together with butane, it forms LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas), which is a liquefied petroleum gas stored under pressure. Thanks to its properties, such as a low boiling point, propane is also suitable for colder conditions where butane would not be as effective. LPG is often used as a more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional fossil fuels because it produces lower pollutant emissions. In addition, it is easy to transport and store, making it a versatile and practical fuel.

Smart communication – ideal for fire alarm systems

The E2639 detector combines the advantages of an autonomous safety device and an intelligent communication node. It is designed for seamless integration with fire alarm systems (EPS) and offers a wide range of outputs for comprehensive control:

  • Autonomy: 3× volt-free SPDT relays for direct control of equipment or safe system shutdown.
  • Connectivity: Dual RS485 Modbus RTU interface for real-time digital export of measured data to a higher-level system (BMS).
  • Control: 2× 4–20 mA analogue outputs intended for precise control of the ventilation frequency inverter.

Easy installation

Easy installation

The E2639 is equipped with three M20 cable glands and a dual terminal block for ModBus RTU. The duplicated ModBus RTU terminals simplify and speed up bus wiring for data readout to a higher-level system. No more inserting two conductors into a single terminal. Thanks to the M20 cable glands, all required outputs can be connected conveniently.

Factory settings:

  • Measuring range: 0–100%LEL C3H8
  • ALARM1 (RE1): 10%LEL
  • ALARM2 (RE2): 20%LEL
  • ALARM3 (RE3): sensor fault
    • Automatic alarm reset after ventilation
  • Analogue outputs: 4-20mA = 0-100%LEL C3H8
  • ModBus RTU address: Baud rate 9600, Parity None, Stop bits 1, Slave ID 1

Key features

  • Sensor type: Semiconductor sensor
  • Measuring range: 0–100%LEL
